In 1982, some 43 years ago, Virgil Tripp began building custom competition 1911s. Later, Tripp became the T in STI, one of the world’s leading competition 1911s.
1994 – Virgil Tripp co-patented the 2011, or double stack handgun and magazine. Let that sink in…
Virgil is to 2011s as John Browning is to the 1911. Browning invented it, and Colt made it famous. Virgil Tripp invented the 2011, and STI made it famous! The patent expired in 2016, and today, most major gun manufacturers make a double stack. Somewhat like Albert Einstein, Virgil is a “tinker” guy. He has always liked to invent. Research and development has always been his thing.
Virgil, and his wife Shari, were both competition shooters, with an international reputation. Tripp firearms were some of the most sought after race guns available. To own one, was a statement. To shoot one, put that shooter in a class above.
In selling out of STI, he began to tinker with magazines. Virgil realized, that magazines were the weakest link in the cycling of a handgun. If a handgun had a misfeed, it probably wasn’t the gun. Usually, it was the magazine. So, he tinkered, and experimented, and invented.
Today’s CobraMag is the result of 43 years of Virgil Tripp’s research and development. Our tube is a little different than any other. Same with our followers, our springs, and our basepads. All just a little different, for scientific and proven reasons. Ours is a proven combination, that just works.
“Simply the BEST! … Better than all the rest!” Tina Turner said it well, and it aptly describes what CobraMag is today, and will continue to be!
Uncompromising quality. Hand made. American made. Right here in Texas.
Williamson County, is where it all began. Now CobraMag is back home. We’re on the same rural county road as Staccato, and Dawson Precision. It’s where we belong.
If you own a quality 1911, why feed it with a cheap magazine?
